Re: An alternate suggestion to power distribution modes.

Couple that with what others said about having the AI control their own power distribution also makes sense. Absolutely. You should be able to specify the general behaviour of ships through the assignment of roles, and they should intelligently figure out how to manage power distribution based on t...

Re: An alternate suggestion to power distribution modes.

As Gazz says, roles will be specific to ship classes. If you had a class of ship Vega Fighter Mk II and you wanted to base an interceptor role off of it, you'd create a roll Interceptor(Vega Fighter Mk II) . A role node would inherit all the sub-nodes of the class it's based off along with a few ad...

Re: An alternate suggestion to power distribution modes.

And to only play devil's advocate, how would this work if you didn't have identical ships? As Gazz says, roles will be specific to ship classes. If you had a class of ship Vega Fighter Mk II and you wanted to base an interceptor role off of it, you'd create a roll Interceptor(Vega Fighter Mk II) . ...

Re: An alternate suggestion to power distribution modes.

I'm concerned that any ideas put forth here will only become incredibly tedious once you have a fleet at your disposal. Without simplicity of some sort or automation, there is just going to be too much to do from ship to ship. You're not wrong. Gazz raised the idea of ships having roles in the Ship...

Re: An alternate suggestion to power distribution modes.

I quite like the power distribution ideas listed here . At the same time, I find myself wondering if I would like the effect of a perceivable drop in thrust every time I fire my weapons? Then again, perhaps this could be mitigated by having individual capacitors for each subsystem, such that momenta...

Re: Way to Increase Number of Fighters Possible: Fighter Win

Great minds think alike except on the end behaviour of a function determining the actual thrust to base thrust ratio against current speed to max speed ratio of a spacecraft. That function was derived from the one to determine the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow. African or European swallo...

Re: No Man's Sky

I was reading an article about it here . It says: "I look forward to hearing more about No Man’s Sky. It looks to have the potential to unseat Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, and Limit Theory from their places in the eagerly anticipated space simulation throne room." It's awesome that Limit Theory is...

Re: Way to Increase Number of Fighters Possible: Fighter Win

Oh, sorry about that. Well, like they say, great minds think alike, eh? There's a slightly more recent version of that: "Great minds think alike except on the end behaviour of a function determining the actual thrust to base thrust ratio against current speed to max speed ratio of a spacecraft." ~ ...

Re: Way to Increase Number of Fighters Possible: Fighter Win

The idea was suggested recently by me in another thread ( Ship Roles (UI) ) as a component of a bigger idea. But I'm probably going to abandon the squadron/wing thing due to valid criticisms of the idea raised by Cornflakes and Gazz. I'll revise it sometime. Feel free to take whatever you want from ...
